Visitors, survived another migraine

I haven’t written for a while. On Monday, August 8, my parents arrived from Pennsylvania. Below is a photo of them, my son, and his dogs taken the next morning.

Family, dogs

My mom took this picture of me with Baby and Buddy saying hello. It was a mistake to wear a white skirt, came home with a number of Buddy paw prints.

My brother and sister-in-law flew to Chicago on August 9 and stayed the night in St. Charles IL, then came up for the day on Wednesday, August 10. We had a picnic in Pere Marquette Park for lunch. I was careful to take naps every 3 or 4 hours, but was quite tired when my folks left on August 11. I still didn’t feel well over the weekend, ended up with a real booger of a migraine on Saturday that is just now wearing off. There is a summer cold going around, think that is what triggered the migraine. The one migraine I had in June lasted a day, the two in July lasted two days each, and this one was a three day plus one. I don’t like that trend.

I joke about my “supermodel” proportions of 5 foot 7 inches and, as of yesterday, 118 pounds but I have problems gaining weight and it melts away quickly when I run a fever or experience nausea from migraines. Fortunately in the summer don’t have the hit for keeping warm as well and I managed to avoid getting dehydrated. In the winter what I just went through probaby would have resulted in loss of five pounds or more.

I spent two days with the curtains drawn and my eyes covered listening to the TV or radio playing softly. What seems to work best is to try to sleep it off. During one waking period, a PBS show about dogs had a vet saying how euthanasia was appropriate if a pet was suffering. I opened my eyes for that one.

I heard a cicada buzzing from my open window just now. Must be on one of the street trees. I heard one at the beginning of August and have heard them in the parks too. The insect sounds change in August, and the cicada is one of them. Summer is passing quickly.
