Visitors

My sister arrived from New York on Thursday evening, then my brother and his wife arrived on Friday. Was a full weekend. We stopped to visit Tom where my brother revealed that grandpap had given him some of the fabled honey wine to taste. He remembered that it was in a jar in their basement by the can cupboard. I had speculated that grandpap was keeping it in the basement of the old house where he had his bee keeping supplies and processed honey. I tried the rhubarb wine, and although I am not a fan found it quite pleasant.

Our other big event was that we burned the wood pile that my dad had been saving for over two years on Sunday. Mother wanted to cook weiners and bring them in to the dining room. We held out, especially when my uncle and his wife, their daughter and her 10 year old son said they would come. It was a crackling big fire, Bode barked at it almost like for thunder storms. When it had burned down quite a bit, daddy went into the woods and came back with three huge poles and sharpened the forks on the end. The 10 year old had a great time, including roasting marshmallows. There were still hot coals left yesterday morning.

The visitors left yesterday morning. I went over to see them off, but was kind of groggy. Around 3:30 am Bode started to bark. I saw flashes in the sky, but it was clear and there was no thunder. When I went out, I saw the entire sky was flashing white. It didn’t look like northern lights, nor a meteor shower. Later I turned on the TV for the early morning news and discovered it was lightning flashes from a storm on the Maryland border, quite a distance away.

I was going to post some pictures, but Photoshop seems to be stuck trying to contact the mothership, so check back later.
