Linux on Macintosh
In April 1999 I installed
MKLinux
on my PowerMac 6100/66 DOS compatible to get three operating systems on one computer. The 486DX card runs DOS 6.2/Windows 3.1. The 601 PPC processor has a dual boot into MacOS 7.6.1 or MKLinux. Some hints if you want to try something like this:
-
Keep the System Folder with the DOS compatible stuff on SCSI address 0.
-
System 7.6.x was the last that supported the DOS compatible card. Put System 8 on a separate partition.
-
The System 9.1 default install, even if on a separate partition, will make the System 7.6 partition unbootable. Put System 9 or higher on another computer.
-
Have at least 600 MB of contiguous free space on one of your partitions for Linux. I put it on a
LaCie
2.1 GB external hard drive.
